Studies

Microfinance in Europe is a new and expanding sector. However, what little information is available on its development and characteristics is usually incomplete and fails to accurately reflect its rapid evolution and growth. It is therefore important that more research be conducted to gain a better understanding of the challenges the sector faces and to promote its development.

Together with its members, EMN aims to participate in various studies and research programmes in order to promote a better understanding of microcredit in Europe.

To date, EMN has participated in the following studies and research programmes:

Overview of the microfinance sector in Western Europe (produced by nef).

Last version of the EMN survey "Overview of the Microfinance Sector in Europe"; 2007.

Women and Microlending in Western Europe; report produced by EMN (April 2006).

As part of the INTI programme, EMN has also issued a working paper about:

Immigrant and Ethnic Minority Participation in Microloan Programmes in Western Europe (April 2006).

Policy measures to promote the use of microcredit (produced by Facet, EVERS & JUNG and nef)

EMN also supported a Street UK publication entitled:

"Street UK, a microfinance organisation: lessons learned from its first three years' operations" (the publication of this document was funded in part by EMN).
